I'm hoping to attend both the Saturday and Monday sets of this years Punk Rock Bowling. Yes, Sunday featuring the Descendents is sold out, but Saturday and Monday do both have some equally awesome bands playing. I honestly didn't understand the whole idea behind Punk Rock Bowling when I first heard about it last year. Do punk rockers form teams and bowl and drink? Do the bands perform in the bowling alley? I guess it's a little bit of both, somewhat.
The bowling portion of this party consists of 168 four-person teams competing against each other through a two day period. The Punk Rock Bowling Champion team will get a cash prize of more than $12,000. That's pretty freaking awesome. I wonder how competitive it can get between the teams. Also, a Punk Rock Texas Hold'em is going on as well. And the other part is the music festival featuring three days of punk rock music by some pretty awesome bands.
Last year, I believe, NoFX played as did the Swingin' Utters, Flogging Molly, Fucked Up, Teenage Bottlerocket, Cobra Skulls and others. I'm looking forward to watching all the bands play on those days with tickets still available, especially Dropkick Murphys, Stiff Little Fingers, Aggrolites, Dirty Filthy Mugs, Off With Their Heads, Citizen Fish, and Leftover Crack. Should be a pretty awesome three-day weekend.
