This song is probably what Reel Big Fish should have had on their, Fame, Fortune, and Fornication, album. It's another 80's classic track and I'll go as far as to say it's the best cover song the band has done, so far that is. They do a mid-tempo mellow rendition of the original When In Rome's, The Promise. The feel of the song is along the same beat as, I'm Cool (the, Why Do They Rock So Hard?, version), which also happens to be my favorite track from Reel Big Fish. The horn section mimics the main melody and the bass plays a lively line that gives this song a heartbeat. And Aaron Berret sings with a bit of charm, but with some mild swagger. With an opening track like, Everyone Else is an Asshole, I'm sure a little fury is still lingering after thirteen songs. And to fully appreciate this track, I had to listen to the original. The part in the video where the hands on the keyboard move up to a higher range while the music is still playing the same notes bugs me. Just a little bit. I'm guessing them hands were just following the camera, right? Ugh.

This will be happening next month. OPPOSITION RISING on tour. Looks like it will be all East Coast dates. Nothing here on sometime-rainy-mostly-sunny West Coast :-D. Wish I could make it to one of these though. Dope stuff. Never heard any of their music? Well, this Boston based band has their album, Aftermathematics, up for free download on their BANDCAMP. Pick up the vinly though, it's pretty sweet looking. Pre-ordered this a little bit ago. Some pretty lovely tunes on this album. I'm thinking I should have put my number in with my order and maybe get a call from one of the dudes. That might have been an interesting conversation. I wonder what we might have talked about. And curious what kind of playlists they'll throw in with the orders. Backstreet Boys? How about some New Edition. Old School New Edition. ha! Support Ska Music! #getintoit After a little whiles now, the new record is on its way. And some little bitty samples to prove it! I can't wait to hear this new stuff. Not exactly new, original, material, but some new music nonetheless. If ya haven't heard, Vultures United will be releasing a new 7" titled, Girls, which will feature their own special, weird, renditions of songs originally sung by female vocalists. I know one of the songs they will be covering, which I'm pretty stoked to hear as I do love that particular song. For reals. And the way they'll be releasing this record is pretty cool too. They recorded nine different songs and will be releasing it on three different formats (vinyl, CD, tape). No, each format won't have all nine songs, but instead, about five songs, each with an exclusive track not featured on another format. Get it? If not, read more about it HERE. The second teaser video has some more intimate, graphic visuals. Is that a bass clarinet in the background? Or the Ricola instrument? Recyle breathing is a tricky technique! I bet this is one of the more weird sounding phrases they will have on this record. Should be interesting. And of course, this record will be something to look forward to in the upcoming weeks (or month?) and hopefully it will be out before the world ends. Even better if it's before Halloween. Be prepared to get your ass kicked in your ears. Or something like that. #getintoit |
