I really want to go to this. I believe it's in San Diego, California. I've seen parts of San Diego. I think it'd be rather difficult for me to explore California. I'd be too scared. Maybe one of this days Mr. Orange Undercover will play in Hawaii again and then these guys (Lands On Fire) will play. And maybe some 82Fifty and Brave Monster. Some excellent music I have yet to hear live at a show and not on CD. Lands On Fire do have a nice newly mixed track streaming and up for download on their website HERE.
Fathom This are currently a three-piece post-hardcore band based in Nanaimo, BC (check out their Facebook HERE). I think I may have come across this band through Twitter. But they just recently released a couple instrumental tracks. Right now they're looking for a singer and thus produced these demos. The instrumentals sound pretty tight, curious to hear what the band will have on lead vocals. Lots of room to experiment for sure. Demos are also up for download.
I haven't gone to the beach once since I've been back home. That's almost five months of no sand, ocean, and the hot-hot sun (not much of that really, it's been raining a lot lately). But I've been able to catch a couple shows and hear some new bands (new to me anyway) in the local scene. Lots of good stuff so far.
Came across this band from a flyer I saw. Siblings, some straight-up pissed-off hardcore from Honolulu, HI. Very fast, aggressive punk and hardcore. Love the lone bass parts of the songs, and later following up with some pretty heavy three chord guitar chops. I haven't seen them yet, but will have to soon. I just missed a show this past Sunday with some other cool local bands. But they do have a couple coming up that I will definitely try to make.

The Bloodtypes, a four-piece punk band from Portland, Oregon, have some tracks from their upcoming album up for stream on their Reverbnation Page HERE. Pretty sweet power punk and pop delivered with simple chord structures and delightful melodies. Check out their Facebook page as well for show dates and such HERE.
I first heard the song, Another Girl, off of the first Hawaiian Express compilation. The song is one of the many awesome songs (I love all of them!) by Hawaii punk-pop quartet, The Catalogs. The Queers did a cover of the track and released it on their fifth album, Don't Back Down. But aside from appearing on local comps, the band did also release an album, Viva Los Muertos, with 13 songs of some of the best punk-pop on the island. Some of my favorite tracks on that album include Mail Order Junkie, Cafeteria Woman and their parody of the Ramones song, I Wanna Be Sedated, titled, I Shoulda Graduated. Another favorite is Specimen 32, which was later re-recorded by The Quintessentials (singer/guitarist, Les Hernandez, current project) for their Legends From the Grave (2005) album (I really love the drums on this version). The Catalogs did record for a self-titled 7” in 1997, but only released it recently through Oregon based label, Mutant Pop Records. The record has five songs which include a re-recorded version of Another Girl along with four other tracks. The track, Scrunchy, a love song about a girl and her scrunchy, appeared on a couple local compilations. The other three tunes, Zombie Girl (another zombie-themed love song), Time and Quarter Pounder Hop, are full of raw lyrics and fun melodies worthy of a classic punk-pop status. Nice release considering the late arrival. But it's always, ALWAYS, better than never. Pick up a copy HERE
Rufio's album, Perhaps, I Suppose..., will be available on vinyl format and pre-orders for it will be taken HERE. It will be released through Company Ink Records. I absolutely love this album to death, definitely one of my all time favorites. I probably would pass on this, but there is a pressing dubbed The Lost Boys Edition, which is a black/red striped pattern reminiscent of the Rufio character from the film, Hook. Looks really awesome.
Looks like some new music coming from Challenger! They recently posted this not too long ago. It's a new song, Days Are Gone, coming up on their new EP, Pastor Aleman. Sounding really good. Can't wait to hear the rest of the EP. Be sure to check them out on Facebook HERE.
Four-piece from South Wales, Saturday's Kids, release a new record titled, Grey On White. It's a three way split with label's Art for Blind, Bombed Out, and Time As a Color. The two songs featured on the record are a lot heavier than the material on their 2011 self-titled 10". On Grey On White they open with noisy feedback on mid-tempo drumming and some warm undertones. The guitars are heavy throughout the song and later drop into some hardcore riffs alongside a thick low end. Side B features the song, Black Pocket, which opens with a crispy bassline. The drums are constant on the double-pedal action with a lot of buzz bleeding out from the guitars. Their songs really are a nice blend of rock and hardcore. Somewhere in between the smokey madness and chaotic rock lies a fresh breath of originality. I'm really liking this band a lot right now.  Grey On White
I just heard the new track from Pennywise, All or Nothing, the title track to their new album set to be released May 1 through Epitaph Records. The song features new singer, Zoli Teglas. I've been listening to the song over and over...fantastic track. I've always loved this band and will always love this band.
Opposition Rising (check out their website HERE) are a four-piece consisting of veterans of the Boston Punk and Hardcore scene. The band includes members formerly of Toxic Narcotic and Mouth Sewn Shut. They released their first album, Aftermathematics, in November 2011 digitally. Check it out here on BANDCAMP. It's currently up for free download. The album features 10 songs of tight hardcore punk and ska with some socially conscience lyrics and ideals. The band released the LP with the help of several different labels which includes the band's own label, Opposition Records.
