I once drove four hours with a show-buddy of mine to go watch Emberghost play. 8 hour round trips were easy back then and only Map Quest. No GPS. Ah, those were good times. But who could get lost in Portland, right? I did. How embarrassing. Good thing about I-84. That interstate was my only frame of reference, my best friend and my way home. Anyway, it must have been the summer of 2005 when I saw Emberghost. I'm pretty sure it was at the Aladdin Theater with a few other bands, including SYX. Those guys were pretty dope too. Picked up Meet Me on the Battlefield that night (I think it was partly a CD (re?)release party for them). Fantastic EP, but it was The Anti-Scene EP that solidified my love for them. The songs were heavy and powerful, with some great guitar work and vocals. The keys were excellent too as were her vocals, thanks to Sarah Jennings (RIP). And (the Ghost of) Parker's voice was dark, chilling and almost melancholic, but comforting and reassuring at the same time. It was nice to have gotten to know their music during their prime as a band. But after six years of silence, the band will be releasing some new music.
