Episode #57
1. Less Life
Less Life are a three-piece hardcore band from New Jersey. Their tunes are very chaotic with lots of thrash and aggressiveness, played at fast paced tempos (listen to another song of theirs on EPISODE 30). This year they released a new track which appeared on a new compilation titled, One Hour From Anywhere. The compilation features fourteen tracks of New Jersey based bands (I especially like the cover art). The tunes are of various punk and hardcore styles (check it out HERE), all of which sound pretty excellent considering the songs were recorded live with no additional cuts or edits. Really raw stuff. The compilation is available for one dollar, but they do provide links to download it for free. Less Life's song on this episode is titled, Canaries in the Coal Mine, off of the compilation, One Hour From Anywhere.
2. Minus
Minus are a hardcore band from Southern California. They're a fast and very aggressive sounding band with an excellent catalog of heavy tunes that speak with a strict fierceness. It's a constant throughout every one of their songs. And they do have an excellent set of songs which can be heard and purchased on their Bandcamp HERE. They also have a live set on video they did last year at a Triple B Records Showcase, HERE (their record, Hard Feelings, is available through Triple B). Very tight stuff. Minus' song on this episode is titled, Never Enough, off of, Hard Feelings.
3. (Order of the) White Rose
The (Order of the) White Rose are a hardcore punk band from the island of Maui in Hawaii. The song on this episode comes from a set they did a while back at KTUH, the college radio station at the University of Hawaii. The recording was part of a radio program called, Monday Night Live, where bands performed live, one-hour (or more) sets. It dates back to about five or more years ago with the inclusion of some (minimal) overdubbed edits. They haven't been active as of late aside from the occasional show. They do have some live videos up on Reverbnation (check that out HERE). Also check out another tune from their album, War Machine, on EPISODE 4. The song on this episode is titled, White Rose, off of their KTUH Monday Night Live set.
4. My Fictions
My Fictions are a four-piece hardcore band from Lowell, Massachusetts. A fairly young band having formed only in 2010, My Fictions offer up some fresh tunes in their music. Aside from traditional hardcore breakdowns, My Fictions tend to break into clean instrumentals and soft spoken melodies. But only for a moment as they later follow up with dark and heavy riffs that scream chaos. A lot of this form is present on their EP, I Want Nothing (which is available for name-your-price HERE). They currently have a their newest EP, Always Trapped, available through Top Shelf Records. My Fictions' song on this episode is titled, Fortune Teller, off of, I Want Nothing.
5. Sights Sounds
Sights Sounds are a progressive rock trio from Salt Lake City, Utah. This three-piece released their debut EP, Mammoth, in June. Its' five songs border along the lines of hardcore and experimental, but with steadfast tempos and a voice that speaks in volumes. It sounds like the singer could be talking right to you at times (and what an awesome voice!), with the exception of the track, A Great Balancing Act (he screams a majority of the time on this one). Much praise goes to the instrumentals - lots of thrash sounding riffs and beats with a nice heavy delivery and pretty melodic undertones. Best get to know these guys now. Sights Sounds' song on this episode is titled, Teeth, off of their EP, Mammoth.
