EPISODE #180
All right, Episode #180, a nice clean number. Approaching 200! That's gonna be soon. I hope. But this episode is a special one! I have a guest on this show, Gavin, of the hardcore project, Ikaika, based on the island of Maui. I've been listening to him since the release of his first EP, A Demonstration of Pacific Fury. And it was only back in April when I got to see Ikaika as a full band! This was during night 1 of the Speed shows. And it was a tight set which featured members of Weight of Sin.
We jump right into the conversation from the origins of the Ikaika project, his perspective of the local Maui scene to what his latest EP, Of War & Mana, is all about.

EPISODE #179
First episode of season 16 is here! I think from here on out, first episodes will be Post-Sailor-Jerry-themed-ish. It's around the same time. This year was just as fun as last year, did more hanging out though with friends. But I make sure I see the first band and stay for the last band. Although, it was pushing a little too late, I did stay for most of the Angry Samoans set. A friend had to dig out and said, "I'll listen to Angry Samoans in the car," haha. I've never went to any of the burlesque sets that happen, but I don't want that to impede on any bands I get to check out. And I probably wouldn't stand in line for that either lol. It was lovely to see Generic in town again and although it was billed as the band's "last Hawaii show," I sure hope it's not.
It was awesome to see The Raging Nathans. Been listening to them on and off through the years, and have been a fan of Rad Girlfriend Records. Spark of Life was awesome to see and so was the Hellflowers and the Angry Samoans (partially). To Be honest, it was a lot more fun to see the local bands play one right after the other. Looking forward to Birthday Bash next year.

EPISODE #178
Got some heavy tunes for you on this episode. I take it back to the early 2000's with a track from The Great Divorce. Yeah, the name is in reference to the novel by CS Lewis, did anyone read that? Hit me up if anyone you know of the band, I only have a few rough demos of them and know only a little bit of the band. They were a cool group of dudes upon meeting them at Tomfest back in 2005. They made the drive all the way from San Francisco. I drove up there with a group of friends from La Grande, Oregon. I thought this band ripped, they hit all the right spots in terms of sound, energy, aggresiveness, especially for heavy music at the time.
I also play a track from Hard Mind, the title track to their EP, Endless Fall. The CD version of that release is available through Panda Claw Records. I also play a track from Generic from the bands' latest, Believe in Aloha. Technically, Generic is currently based in PDX, but originally from Hawaii. The universe had all members meet up in Portland later in life which is super cool and an awesome story. They lifers at this point. Please continue to keep playing. I also play a track from Dangers, off of, Mess Isn't It? Dangers been at it a while too. I'm still hoping for that one opportunity to see them play live.
Closing this show is a new one from Ikaika, a hardcore band based out on Maui. Super stoked to be able to see them play in April, opening up for Speed (yes, a gang called SPEED). That is going to be a super dope show. And I think the band will be backed by members of Weigth of Sin. A good group of dudes and solid musicians. The latest single by Ikaika is titled, American By Force. Look it up. Sing along.

On this episode, I have guest, Chad Kaya, Maui based musician whose past projects include Entity Awakened, Abandon the Raft, Owaila, The Kittinger Jump and his most recent endeavor, Kū. I was happy to hear that he was still making and writing heavy music. And also, I got to finally hear other Entity songs after 20 something years. And all those tracks are solid. We talked about a lot of things, I bombarded him with questions regarding the scene on Maui. But some things were cut for timing. I'll release another version of the chat without music. But it was finally cool to meet Chad and chat it up. Entity Awakened was definitely a power house of metalcore (on the strength of one song!). Live sets were on myspace at one point during their time in Las Vegas. They need to release those. Anyway, enjoy this chat with Chad, super cool dude.

Welcome to the first episode of 2026! I consider this episode special (as all other episodes!) because it's all local bands with all new music! I got to see all these bands recently and again later this month! I'm pretty stoked. Screaching Weasel will be coming to town for the first time, with a bill dedicated with outer island bands opening up here on Oahu, which is pretty exciting. The Caballerials are a super group of sorts which includes members of The Pettyfords (among a few) which is the band that introduced me to Screaching Weasel. I've gotten to meet at least a couple members of each of the bands on this episode, and of course, they're all cool people. Been trying to make it to as many shows as I can. I absolutely love this music scene on this island. Thanks for listening.
